Ten Days Since...
I just checked. My last article went out ten days ago, so my plan to post weekly isn’t too far off track. Speaking of “off track,” you may have noticed that I changed my header. It’s one of those settings in Substack that I’m trying to figure out. Anyway, it now says:
“READING, WRITING, AND VEERING OFF TRACK”
Why? Well, just the fact that I figured out how to edit it was a huge accomplishment, so I had to use my new skill. Plus, it suits me better, at least for now. I love reading and writing, and I’m an expert at veering off track. And going off track means I can write about anything I want.
What really got me off track recently was my pesky knee surgery. If we’re facebook friends, you might already know that seven weeks ago I had a knee replacement. That is serious business, let me tell you. According to Google, it’s in the top five of the world’s most painful surgeries. And the recovery is no joke, especially the first few days when you need a cocktail of medications just to keep breathing.
But none of that mattered when my caregiver (you know, the person you might be married to who has signed up to look after your needs following surgery) injured his toe while I was in surgery. Oh my goodness! It was awful. What does one do when a grown man stubs (okay, maybe sprains or breaks) his toe? Elevate, ice, rest. Wait! That’s what I was supposed to be doing. I was hobbling around the house with my walker to make HIM tea and toast! Not to worry, we called in the reserves—thankfully, we have a few friends and neighbors who like us and were willing to help out.
It’s been seven weeks since the knee surgery/toe injury debacle. We’re over it. But I’m still talking about it. And will continue to do so as long as someone finds the story entertaining.
Between us, the likelihood of this “caregiver” discovering I’ve written about him on Substack is slim. If you know him personally, please don’t mention it.
Time to get back on track. See you in a week. Or two, more or less.

When it rains, it pours! And the less said about the relative suffering of men and their owies vs women and theirs, the better. 😉
Oh man! I second what Heather said. I’m glad you’re on your knees again, and he’s on his toes!
